Customize Channel Art
Now, before starting you need to know whether it is an organization or individual. You have to treat it as a brand.
And, By treating it as a brand I meant to display it as brands do. In order to do that you have to make sure that your youtube art communicates with your viewers.
A channel art (“Youtube Banner” or “Channel Header image”) is displayed at the top of every youtube channel page.
It is a very important part to create a strong first impression. Since channel art is the first thing your viewers see when they visit your channel page.
Also, you can use the channel art to convey the important messages about your channel such as taglines, offers, uploading schedule and more.
While you are creating or uploading your channel art, you must see that it have.
- The main topic of your youtube channel.
- What is so unique about your youtube channel or why are you uniquely qualified to solve those topics.
Now, you can do it in 3 ways
- Represent the Creator
- Display the Logo
- Represent the shot
#1: Representing the Creator
In this, it would be you who created the youtube channel and runs the show.
This works very well for Personal Brands and Vlogs. Most of the personal brands display their static photo like this one.
#2: Display the Logo
This is when you focus your channel art around your brand logo. Also, it is important for your channel art to have brand colors like this one.
A logo with a defined set of color. A tagline which completely defines what to expect in the channel.
#3: Represent the Shot
A picture is worth a thousand words, you know very well. Using a few shots of what you do into the channel art conveys a strong message.
Also, by doing this you make it easy for your viewers to understand that what your channel is about.
For example, Colinfurze displays a few of his cool inventions in his channel art. Moreover, you can clearly see what kind of videos he releases at the right corner of his channel art.
Uploading the Channel Art
Log in and head back over to your youtube channel page and click on “CUSTOMIZE CHANNEL”.
Click on the button “Ad channel art” or drop down the button and click on “Edit channel art”
Then, Select the image file from your p.c and upload it. Youtube recommends you to upload channel art image with 2560 x 1440 px size and maximum 6MB file size.
Click on the button “Adjust the Crop”, and select how your channel art should display in different devices.
Now here is a trick,
You will see a 1546 x 423 px space in the middle where you must put all your necessary things such as logo, tagline and more. That portion of your Channel art is going to be visible in mobile and desktop devices.
Click on the button “Devices Preview”, in order to see how your channel art is going to display in different devices.
Click on “Select” in order to save the channel art.
Optimize Channel Description
A Channel Description is where you explain briefly that what kind of content does your channel publish. Also, what makes it more important is that it appears in youtube’s search results.
A well-written channel description can convert visitors into subscribers. Also, It can be for certain keywords to rank.
While you write a channel description, you must see that it has:
- Optimized first 100-150 characters
- Viewers targeted description
- Proper usage of keywords
- Clearly tells when you upload
- Call-to-action
#1: Optimized First 100-150 Characters
When your channel appears on searches on youtube, your first 100-150 characters of description is important.
Why?
Well, your 100-150 of your channel description is being displayed on the search results.
Also, this is the part of your channel description which viewers will read right away.
#2: Viewers Targeted Description
Most of the YouTubers tell about them in their channel description, which might be fair in personal brands with large followings and vlogs.
For example, “My channel is all about skateboarding. I am literally good at doing kickflip, heelflip, 360-flip and many other tricks”
Guess what, no one cares what I like to do.
The best you can do is put something like “My channel is all about skateboarding. If you want to learn nice tricks like the kickflip, heelflip, 360-flip and many more then feel free to subscribe!”
#3: Proper Usage of Keywords
You might have seen it rarely but if you optimize your youtube channel description, it ranks in youtube searches.
Just like Google, Youtube also considers the terms you use in your channel description in order to define its ranking.
So, when you are writing the youtube description, do consider the terms people might search to find your channel. Then, sprinkle those terms in your channel description.
Also, when you do so,
Take care not to do keyword stuffing or your channel description will end up sound unnatural and spammy.
#4: Clearly tell when you upload
This one isn’t that necessary.
But, if you do upload videos on a regular basis, this is one of a good place to tell.
#5: Call-to-action
It’s ok to ask people to subscribe.
Put a clear call-to-action message asking your viewers to subscribe, Its that simple!
People who like your video/content and want more of it are definitely going to subscribe if you ask.
Saving the Channel Description Copy
Once you have created a perfect channel description, its time to use it in your youtube channel.
And for that,
You need to log in and head back over to your youtube channel page and click on “CUSTOMIZE CHANNEL”.
Click on “About” Section.
Click on the button “Channel description”.
Paste or Write your channel description text and click on the “Done” button.
